Home Dynamics
Home Dynamics will deal with the issues that make up the real you. When in public a person will follow commonly accepted social etiquette. In social situations, sometimes we feel that we have to meet certain expectations of formality. God is most interested in how we conduct ourselves behind closed doors. We cannot be people of integrity if we have different standards in different places.
One time I heard a preacher give a fantastic definition of integrity. He reminded his listeners that the root word for “integrity” is “integer.” That is a mathematical term and it simply means any whole number like 1, 2, 3, and so on. It refers to any number that has not been divided. For example, fractions are not integers because they represent numbers that have been divided. So the word “integrity” means to be undivided.
Many people, even Christians, are divided in their personal integrity. They act one way at church and then completely different at home. If a person can put on the “Sunday smile” and sing worship songs and act the part of a Christian and then go to work and trash the boss in the break room then they have an integrity problem. That is what we used to call being “two-faced.” James 1:8 says, “A double minded person is unstable in ALL their ways.” A double minded person is anybody who has different rules that govern their conduct at different times. Integrity is the same in public as it is in private. People like that are never a good witness for Christ because others see a “fraction” of them one way and a “fraction” of them another way.
This explains the root of instability in the lives of people. If they would allow the Word of God to be their standard in the home, job, and friendships alike, life would become much more stable for them. A person can only stand as tall as their integrity.
Hebrews 3:3 says, “…he who has built the house has more honor (or value) than the house.” This verse is not talking about strapping on a tool belt and pounding some nails. To “build” a house refers to the set of principles that govern a home. Notice that the person of the home determines the value of the home. Your character is the appraisal of your house in the eyes of God, not the price you can sell it for.
People of low character will struggle to produce lasting value in their homes. Your home cannot prosper beyond your character in the eyes of God. When a family prospers faster than their faithfulness to God, the Bible says that they will pierce themselves with many sorrows. (1 Tim 6:10) When a home pursues Godly character over material possessions, lasting value will be found in that family.
